Nigerian Engineers Develop AI Drone for Security Surveillance
By Monsuru Toheeb -
A team of engineers at Kwara State University has developed an AI-powered drone intended to support national security agencies in surveillance operations across the country.
The drone, unveiled at the university’s technology laboratory, is equipped with night vision capabilities, motion-tracking sensors, and real-time video analytics. Officials explained that it can detect unusual activity and immediately alert security personnel, enabling faster response to potential threats.
During a demonstration, the drone successfully identified simulated intrusions across a designated perimeter, transmitting live footage to control operators. Engineers said the system is designed to assist in monitoring borders, preventing vandalism, and reducing incidents of kidnapping in rural communities.
