Port Harcourt Robotics Club Builds Fire-Rescue Snake Robot

 By  Toheeb -

A group of young inventors in Port Harcourt has developed a snake-shaped robot designed to navigate collapsed buildings and assist in rescue operations. The robot’s flexible body allows it to slither into tight spaces while carrying heat sensors and a tiny speaker for communication.

During a live demonstration, the robot maneuvered through rubble and alerted the team when it detected heat signatures. Emergency responders who attended the demonstration were visibly impressed and stated that this could save countless lives during disasters

The project was led by robotics club leader Emeka Okon, who said the team wanted a solution that was low-cost yet highly effective.

“Many robots on the market are too expensive for local rescue teams. Our design is simple, rugged, and efficient,” he explained.

Students and onlookers alike watched the robot navigate obstacles, marvelling at its precision and responsiveness. Officials from Port Harcourt’s emergency management agency expressed interest in further testing.

The team hopes to collaborate with government agencies to deploy multiple units across Nigeria’s high-risk urban areas. The innovation has already captured the attention of national media and tech investors.

This invention demonstrates how local talent is combining robotics and practical problem-solving to enhance public safety in Nigeria.
